Prince Charles presents the BBC weather forecast

It’s an event firmly suppressed in the British consciousness – but it definitely happened.

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla went to BBC Scotland to present the weather forecast – and Charles, for his part, was unhappy with the script.

The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall – who are also Duke and Duchess of Rothesay on the Isle of Bute, Scotland – visited the BBC Regional Division headquarters at Pacific Quay in Glasgow.

Celebrating 60 iconic years of BBC Scotland television in 2012, the Duke and Duchess got in front of the camera, grabbed a clicker and readied the autocue.

But things didn’t quite go to plan, as it wasn’t long before Prince Charles criticized the script given to him by BBC bosses.

Prince Charles was in his element

In his element, Charles began his report by announcing, “Well, it’s an uncertain picture as we head into the end of the week. This afternoon will be cold, wet and windy across most of Scotland.

Charles looked dapper than ever in a black double-breasted suit and blue shirt, donning a red and navy striped tie for the occasion with a dark purple pocket square.

But things took a tense turn when he announced: “In the west the rain will be lighter and more patchy – there may be a few drier interludes over Dumfries House in Ayreshire – aha!”

Dumfries House is of course owned by the Prince’s Foundation.

Things progressed quickly, as Charles read, “There is potential for a few flurries on Balmoral – who the hell wrote this script – during the afternoon.”

But as a real pro, Charles continues: “A little veiled sun for the Château de Mey, but a cold day everywhere with temperatures of only eight degrees Celsius and a brisk northeast wind.

“Thank God it’s not a public holiday!” he chuckled.

It was soon Camilla’s turn, though her segment was slightly bogged down by audio issues.

Still, she looked regal as ever in a stunning gray and blue coat with big brown buttons, with a pearl necklace around her neck as she took control of the clicker. With her blonde hair permed to perfection, Camilla looked ready to take on the world – and the odds.

Camilla read the same forecasts as her husband – but with fewer interruptions to criticize the scriptwriters.
