JR’s Sunday Night Weather Report | Provide

Our first good snowfall of the new year has passed. As announced, the southern parts of the ABC12 viewing area took the lion’s share. The storm’s highest snow totals came in at just under 5 inches. For tonight, with a good bit of starlight expected, light winds and with this fresh snow on the ground, the scene is set for a cold night. For many of us, temperatures will rebound into single digits through Monday morning.

Monday morning’s drive will be okay for the most part. The wider roads will be fine, but after a very long day for the road crews on Sunday, some of the side roads, ramps and side streets are still slippery. Even these will improve during the day thanks to decent sunshine and with the return of the crews. High temperatures for the day will remain in the 20s. On Tuesday, highs will return to the 30s as more clouds return to central Michigan.

Wednesday will see the return of snow as a new weather system moves into the Great Lakes from the northwest. A light accumulation seems like a good bet for the day, so expect slippery roads. In fact, the snow will start to fall late Tuesday evening, so Wednesday morning’s drive is likely to be slow. On ABC12 News, we’ll let you know what’s behind the snow! -JR
