BBC adds Liverpool to weather map after Scouse viewers complained

The BBC added Liverpool to its UK weather map after local viewers complained to the TV broadcaster.

Viewers claimed to have noticed parts of the North West region omitted from the national weather map, including Liverpool.

Channels like ITV are including Liverpool in their forecasts.

But viewers were frustrated that on Carol Kirkwood’s morning newscast, the town was overlooked by the BBC.

The new weather map with Liverpool

Previously, a BBC Breakfast map showed cities such as Birmingham, Norwich, Plymouth and Hull.

However, cities like Manchester, Leeds, York, Preston and Liverpool were not represented.

Speaking to ECHO, the BBC was able to confirm that following a review it adjusted its weather charts to now include Liverpool.

A spokesperson said: ‘Following a review of our graphics, we have added Liverpool to our standard UK TV weather map.

“The city is a useful coastal reference point for viewers and has minimal impact on the design of our map.

“The weather maps in our bulletins for programming English regions and nations show more close-up detail along with many other local place names.

“Logging into our website or BBC Weather app can provide the public with even more localized details and information. “

Bob Allen, who was one of the complainants, posted on the Liverpool Happy Memories Facebook group about the BBC’s new addition.

He said: “I have noticed recently that our great city is appearing more and more on the weather map now. SCOUSE POWER.”
